This town hall meeting is aimed to review our understanding of how the Arctic Ocean may evolve on timescales of the next few decades to a century, identify the gaps in this understanding and draw a roadmap how these can be closed. We suggest taking one step forward and looking at the future of the Arctic Ocean as an open ocean with accelerated ocean currents, energetic eddies and waves, and discuss how the open state will affect the other components of the system.
